How false eyelashes, wigs, and blue contact lenses helped Anna de Armas transform into Marilyn Monroe

Jaime Lee McIntosh, head of hair and head of makeup, Tina Rossler Kerwin, spent two and a half hours each morning applying hair and makeup on de Armas.

This still image capture gave us a chance to try a lot of different colors and see what worked. It gave us a chance to see what works best with black and white rather than color,” Kerwin explains.

The mandate was “to find Marilyn in Anna and not put Marilyn’s hair and makeup on Anna, but to identify our Marilyn and introduce her to the best of our ability.”

a custom-made De Armas silicone block was created that could withstand a rigorous nine-week shooting schedule.

De Armas wore blue contact lenses for the film, and to perfect the eye shape, Kerwin used false eyelashes on the corner of the actress’ eyelids. “I changed the shape of the eye,” Kerwin explains.

Kerwin says facial identification was also important. “When she’s younger, her face looks more rounded, and when she gets older, she has that classic look.”
