On Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium, the undermanned Miami Dolphins were unable to defeat the New York Jets, losing 40-17 to their division rivals.

In his first NFL game, Thompson ended with 166 passing yards and a pick. Tyreek Hill had the most receptions (seven for 47 yards), leading all receivers.

The Jets built up a 12-0 second quarter lead thanks to a 34-yard field goal and a 79-yard pass to running back Breece Hall that set up a one-yard touchdown rush by Michael Carter.

Thompson began to regain his balance when the Jets scored another touchdown. The Dolphins scored after moving 75 yards down the field in 2:34 on the last drive of the half.

After Miami missed a 54-yard field goal in the fourth quarter, they gave the Jets ideal field position, and Carter quickly scored on a one-yard run to cut the deficit to two possessions with 9:22 left in the game.
