What if a nurse or doctor quit nursing and went into the private sector?

The nation’s largest nursing organization, the American Nurses Association, has urged states to pass laws banning the practice of home-based nursing and to give home care more priority.
It said the health care sector has a growing shortage of nurses, which has resulted in the high number of suicides of homecare workers.
The union called on lawmakers to pass measures that would allow home-care workers to work longer hours, pay more and be compensated for the cost of care.
“We believe that homecare and assisted living are an essential part of the health of our communities, and these changes are necessary to help ensure our nation’s hospitals and nursing homes are not the first to be impacted,” the union said in a statement.
The nursing union has also urged lawmakers to give nursing homes and other assisted living facilities more financial resources to pay for home care and other services.
The federal government currently provides about $1 billion per year in Medicaid reimbursements for homecare, including home care for nursing home residents and care for the elderly.
That amount has risen to about $2.3 billion in 2017.
The nursing union said it wants to see nursing home care receive priority on Medicaid, which covers about 2.3 million low-income people in the United States.
The home-health care industry, which is booming in the U.S. with about $5 billion in revenue in the first half of this year, has long been at the center of concerns about the long-term effects of long-duration care on nursing home patients.
A growing body of research has shown that home care patients may be more prone to psychiatric illness, which can lead to suicide.
“We’re concerned about long-lasting health issues and chronic health issues in nursing home populations,” said Jennifer Smith, a spokeswoman for the Association of Community and Technical Colleges, which represents the nation’s nursing and assisted-living associations.
“What we’re seeing is that nursing home facilities are not equipped to deal with these chronic health problems, so we want to make sure that those long-standing issues are addressed.”
