Nurse educators are not the only ones getting to college.
Nursing school graduates have a long way to go to reach their dream jobs, as they face a daunting array of new barriers to getting into these lucrative fields.
The average nurse’s salary is less than $15,000, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Nurses in some states, including Louisiana, Arkansas, Florida and South Carolina, are being paid as little as $10,000 to $14,000 per year.
The American Nurses Association says it is working to get a nurse’s pay raise to $15 per hour, but the White House has been reluctant to support that.
President Donald Trump, however, has taken to pushing for a $15 minimum wage.
The White House’s proposal would allow people to receive a $12 per hour raise, but it’s unclear how the President would be able to make this happen.
Some experts say it’s not the best time to be a nurse, because the economy has been hard hit.
Nursing is also a profession that requires a high level of training, said Lori E. Miller, an assistant professor of nursing at New York University.
